Jack White
On Friday night, what happens at Rogers Place stays at Rogers Place. That’s because Jack White has decreed that no cell phones will be allowed at the arena when he stops in on his Boarding House Reach world tour. The garage rocker and former White Stripes frontman hit number one in North America with the album, his third solo release in between stints with The Raconteurs and Dead Weather.

The Comedy Company
The trenches of the First World War provide the setting for The Comedy Company, a new play by CBC Irrelevant Show writer Neil Grahn that asks “what’s so funny about mud, death, and machine gun fire?” Based on a true story, the play follows the antics of members of the Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry Division, who came together to perform sketches and musical parodies to lift the spirits of their fellow soldiers. John Hudson directs, with Andrew MacDonald-Smith, Steven Greenfield, Jesse Gervais, and Nathan Cuckow among the talented cast.
When: Until Nov. 11. Performances are Tuesdays to Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with an added matinee on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. No shows on Mondays, no evening shows on Sundays.

Woof and Other Tales of Abigail
Young kids and their parents should get a chuckle from Kompany Family Theatre’s Woof and Other Tales of Abigail. A trio of tales featuring Abigail and her best friend Woof, it also features a live kitty-kat DJ. Come an hour earlier to the Westbury lobby for a performance of Wag-A-Palooza, including face-painting, live music, crafts and games.

Puddles Pity Party
Are you afraid of clowns? Further to that, are you afraid of clowns that sing in operatic tones? Acclaimed as being somewhat like “Pagliacci by way of Pee-Wee Herman and David Lynch,” Puddles has made his reputation as a clown with a very unique take on rock ‘n’ roll classics. A Fringe favourite around the world, Puddles is also something of an internet sensation, racking up 76 million hits on his Youtube videos, where he covers the likes of Bowie, Queen, and Cheap Trick.

98 Degrees
They’re no longer as dewy as they were in their late ’90s heyday, but the four members of 98 Degrees still have something to offer fans of boy bands. After a decade-long break the band — who racked up over 10 million in record sales and a fistful of radio smashes in their time — reconvened in 2012 for a one-off reunion that turned into a full-scale revival. Look for such indelible hits as Thank God I Found You and Give Me Just One Night.

The Force Awakens
Have you ever thought to yourself that it would be great to hear a British-style brass band play the theme to a Star Wars movie? Well, take heed, space freaks; the Mill Creek Colliery Band is doing just that, positioning The Force Awakens among offerings from Verdi and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Also on the menu are tunes by Irving Berlin (Alexander’s Ragtime Band), Eric Ball (Resurgam), and Malcolm Arnold (Little Suite For Brass).

Lest We Forget
The RCMP Regimental Pipes and Drums join forces with the Cosmopolitan Music Society for Lest We Forget: A Musical Tribute, this Sunday evening at the Winspear. Military marches and popular wartime music, a parade of colours, and a photographic tribute to loved ones are all part of this tribute to the Canadian Armed Forces. Come an hour early for entertainment in the Winspear lobby, plus a silent auction.

Barney Bentall
Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts rocked their way through the 1990s, but the Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter brings a softer side to Festival Place with Barney Bentall and the Cariboo Express — a collection of roots and folk musicians making their third stop on an 11-date November tour. Each song is introduced with a unique monologue scripted by Bentall and co-host Matt Masters, delivering fine music with a side of storytelling.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical
They’ve plundered ABBA and Queen for material to stock Broadway musicals, and now it’s Carole King’s turn. The gifted singer-songwriter, who started as a Brill Building songwriter-for-hire before blowing up as a confessional singer with her album Tapestry in 1971, sees her life laid out in song in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. The hits will never stop coming with this one, as radio standards like So Far Away, Some Kind of Wonderful, Loco-Motion, You’ve Got a Friend, and You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman act as signposts in King’s life.
